I had the opportunity to connect with Jonathan Palmar to learn about Shay Rowbottom LinkedIn Bootcamp. Plus I also got the opportunity to learn about his thoughts on LinkedIn. I encourage you to check out my interview with Jonathan Palmar below:
Loryn: When did you start working with Shay?
Jonathan: I actually started working with her this year. I went to her program, I took her Bootcamp and it was such a great experience. I was actually a forensic accountant before I got involved with LinkedIn.
Loryn: Do you consider yourself as one of the few people that started using her LinkedIn Video Bootcamp?
Jonathan: I found a lot of success with it, and when I finally realized the power of it, and how effective it could be as a tool . I wanted it to share it with other people, I realized it can be lifechanging for someone, because it was lifechanging for me.
Loryn: What advice would you give to those who are interested in joining the LinkedIn Video Bootcamp, but can't afford it?
Jonathan: Shay and I give away free advice through our content. Everything that we would do in the Video Bootcamp is in their content, you just have to search for it a little bit. We personalized the content for you, without the Video Bootcamp you have to do the homework yourself.
Loryn: What advice would you give someone who is hesitate when it comes to creating video content?
Jonathan: I advise people to play to their own strengthen, realized what exactly is it you are best at. I think a lot of people try to focused something that may not naturally work for them.
Loryn: Have you've ever consider making other content beside video?
Jonathan: No, I haven't. The reason being, is because I am very insecure with my writing, you'll through my content I use a lot of visuals, pictures, use a loud voice. I do all of these things because I am trying to hide the fact that I'm not a great writer.
Loryn: What advice would you provide to those who are not on LinkedIn?
Jonathan: Your message is going to reach a lot more people, but in addition to that, for the most part people are on LinkedIn looking for business opportunities, none of us have a million followers, but the followers we do have are quality in terms of business. If you are creative and you have goals, and ambitions, LinkedIn is the way to go because you are reaching people that make a finical investment.
Loryn: How did you get introduced to Travis Lachner?
Jonathan: Travis Lachner and some other LinkedIn connections had reached out to him. They wanted to do some type of Zoom meetup once they couldn't host a live event due to the pandemic.
Loryn: Why is collaborating so important?
Jonathan: Collaborating is so important, because there's gonna be someone in your audience, that isn't familiar with me. Plus it allows you to build an established personal brand. I encourage LinkedIn connection to take advantage of it.
Loryn: What advice would you give those starting a personal brand?
Jonathan: It can't hurt to start building a personal brand. A lot of people are very timid because, they feel like it's reputation risk. I wouldn't recommend focusing on only developing content around what you do for a living.
Loryn: What advice do you have for people to start creating content on LinkedIn?
Jonathan: My recommendation is start slow. Don't follow into the trap of doing what everybody else is doing. Focus on value, because that's how all of us grew first.
Loryn : Do you feel like you will know when it's the right time to share your story?
Jonathan: I will know when it's the right time to share my story. I've started to add things in sporadically.
Loryn: If you are trying to build an audience, do you think it's wise to start commenting on other influencers content?
Jonathan: Yes. People disregard the comment section so much, people think influencers aren't watching. We all talk, we know the people who are supporting us. That word of mouth along is so powerful.
