I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Dujuan Thomas to learn five random facts about himself, and what he has learned about himself during the pandemic. Check out my interview with Dujuan below:
Loryn: What have you've learned about yourself during the pandemic?
Dujuan: I have learned that I am capable of achieving anything I put my heart and mind too! From running for mayor of my hometown, to producing my own talk show. This pandemic has been a blessing in disguise for me. I've accomplished so much with the whole world stopping. I've also learned to be more grateful for family, friends, and opportunities.
Loryn: What lesson have you've learned from a celebrity you've interviewed?
Dujuan: I've learned so much from every interview I've conducted. I started my journey in celebrity interviews as a way to expand my network and gain knowledge in many different fields. One that always sticks out to me is when Leslie David Baker (Stanley Hudson from NBC's The Office) told me that his mother told him, "if you live a little bit under your means, you'll always have means." So basically no matter how much money your making, live a lifestyle right under your tax bracket and you'll never go broke.
Another saying that has never left my mind is from one of my first major interviews with Lavar Ball and his son Liangelo. Lavar told me "if you want something that bad, maybe it doesn't come in a day or a week... what if something you want comes in 20 years, are you willing to wait that long?" He basically spoke about being consistent and speaking things into existence. I've seen this come into play with my career, because when I interviewed him that day, I never could have imagined having my own talk show today.
Loryn: If you could be mentored by anyone, who would it be?
Dujuan: From a young age, I've sought after mentors in many different fields. I'm grateful for the people that have helped mentor me thus far, including my friend Stevie Mackey.
I have a few key individuals that I believe one day will be my mentors. Oprah, Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Tyler Perry, Quincy Jones, Spike Lee are people I know I will have in my life at some point. I see my story, my grind, my passions all in thier stories. From Oprah grinding to get her talk show; Tyler Perry thinking it was all over, but God. Also from Will Smith being at the right place at the right time with Quincy Jones; and Denzel is just the GOAT. Spike Lee & Quincy are both legends in thier fields, so they would both be integral in my journey.
Stevie once told me, "be someone that they want to meet." So I will continue on my journey becoming that person Will Smith wants to meet.
Loryn: Who is a celebrity you'd love to interview, but haven't yet?
Dujuan: I have many celebs I'd love to interview, but I sometimes feel I'm not ready for. I've really grown into this, and believe the level of celebs I interview will grow with me. In saying that, I hope one day to Interview my list of dream mentors above.
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Dujuan: People sometimes don't know a few things about me. For one, I'm an artist, and my work has been featured in art galleries, as well as murals being up in different businesses. I guess the second thing is I have a pet ferret names Mister. Maybe the third is I'm related to Elvis Presley through marriage lol.
