I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Kaitlyn Velez to learn five random facts about herself and the story behind her song Off My Mind. Check out my interview with Kaitlyn below:
Loryn: Who is a musician you'd like to work with in the future?
Kaitlyn: I would love to work with Pharrell. Any record he works on is so undeniably him. It’s always so evident when he puts his magic on a record and I’d be honored ( and so starstruck ) if I ever got the chance to learn and experience his gift first hand.
Loryn: How would you describe your music in one sentence?
Kaitlyn: As cliche as this sounds, fun! I love working with my producers Ryan and Aaron because we explore so many different sounds and textures and just have a blast creating the music. It translates into the songs for sure.
Loryn: What is the story behind your song "Off My Mind"?
Kaitlyn: “Off My Mind” is such a different sound and vibe for me. I wanted to write a break-up song and a lot of times when we think “break-up song”, we tend to think it’ll probably be a sad song. I wanted to go for the exact positive. I wanted to make a song that wasn’t sad but was empowering to anyone going through a breakup!
Loryn: What lesson did The Voice teach you?
Kaitlyn: The Voice taught me how important it is to know who you are as an artist. I knew who I was before the experience but the experience made my identity as an artist that much stronger! I have learned even more what my strength and weaknesses are and want to do what I can to improve and take my artistry to the next level.
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Kaitlyn: I am a lot more introverted than I make out to be. I wouldn’t call myself an introvert or an extrovert. I think I fall somewhere in between.
