I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Kye Tamm to learn five random facts about himself, and what inspired him to be a musician . Check out my interview with Kye below:
Loryn: What lesson have you've learned about yourself during the pandemic?
Kye: Being confined indoors for a long period of time can really make you question who you are and what you want to do with your life. The pandemic, strangely enough, brought about both a sense of clarity as well as mass confusion. I'm very much an introvert, so staying inside was never a problem! I had video games, books, shows and movies to occupy my time. But there came a moment when I felt stagnant in my creative journey. I realized that if I wanted to start my career, I had to do it on my own. And though I had ample time to come up with shorts to film, and music to record... I lacked the inspiration to do it unless I was surrounded by friends who wanted to do the same thing. To collaborate. So I think one lesson I've learned is that creatively, I don't excel as well as I can without the help of other artistic minds.
Loryn: What's a goal you hope to achieve this month?
Kye: This month, I hope to be able to film one short film with the company me and my friends have created, The Intoxicated Readers. We've already got a backlog of scripts we can choose from, after months of writing and streaming them on Twitch. Now we just need to get together and start doing them.
Loryn: What has been the biggest challenge of being an actor?
Kye: Personally, it's staying inspired and uplifted even in the face of rejection. Every audition that you don't hear back from feels like slow defeat, but it's important to always remember that "no" doesn't mean you're not good enough. Just that they're looking for something else. And every closed door leads to more open ones. I live by the saying that everything happens for a reason. It's gotten me through many tough times.
Loryn: What inspired you to be a musician?
Kye: My earliest memory of performing came from when I was really young, probably no older than 6 or 7. I was singing at my sister's birthday party, and everybody started complimenting me on my voice. I realized that I might have a knack for it. So I started singing regularly, I picked up both the piano and the guitar, and eventually... singing became a way for me to express my emotions. I started writing music as well. Everything I couldn't say in regular words, I say in a song. Now, with more songs than I can count after close to fifteen years of writing music, I've found a way to communicate when I can't speak.
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Kye: Aside from being a singer-songwriter and actor, I have dreams of being a pro gamer. I don't know if it'll ever come to pass, but it's a passion that I've started to nurture only recently. I'm especially interested in being a professional Valorant player! It's silly, given that I've never actually invested time in playing first-person shooters... But I've come to love it.
