I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Mikey Cook learn five random facts about himself and what inspired his first album 'Curiosity'. Check out my interview with Mikey Cook below:
Loryn: What inspired your first album 'Curiosity'?
Mikey: When I first started writing for my album it was originally just random songs. But then I started to write more about my life and then it started leading into writing about my coming out story in a way. So most of the songs are centered around real experiences and feelings. I titled Curiosity because that's how I was when first discovering my sexuality, I was curious, and I wanted to explore more. But I wanted to make sure that the story was told in a way that would make you continue to listen but I also wanted songs that I knew you could sing to and turn up to and have multiple listens. And hopefully, it'll keep being listened to.
Loryn: What lesson has the music industry taught you so far?
Mikey: That it can get cutthroat sometimes, especially out here in Los Angeles. You have to find a good team and have good people around you when it comes to this line of work.
Loryn: How has the pandemic changed you?
Mikey: Sheesh, I'm not the same person I was before this started. I'm completely different, from my mental health to even the daily things I do. There were good and bad changes but with life, you really have to learn that it's a Ying and yang type of thing. You need the good and the bad, it makes you and shapes you into who you are.
Loryn: How do you plan to invest in your music career moving forward?
Mikey: For now I'm focusing on promoting my album, I also have some future work and collaborations coming up that I have to be secretive about, but I can tell you that something Holiday related is in the works lol.
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Mikey: That I'm actually just now learning how to slow down in life. People say I move a lot but I've actually been home, working on music and getting my headspace right...
