I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Camryn Levert to learn five random facts about herself and the story behind her song All Night. Check out my interview with Camryn below:
Loryn: What lesson has the pandemic taught you?
Camryn: The biggest lesson I learned in this pandemic is that we are constantly learning new skills. The pandemic put me in positions where I had to develop skills I rarely used before, such as adaptability. I learned to make the best of the challenges presented and found new ways to connect and collaborate with people.
Loryn: Who is a musician you'd love to collaborate with in the future?
Camryn: This is always the hardest question for me because i genuinely want to collaborate with everyone!!! I feel like by getting together with any artist I love we could come up with something so creative that would suit both of our styles. I’d really love to collab with SZA and Victoria Monet. The way the write and perform their music is always mesmerizing and so inspiring. I feel I could learn a lot from them.
Loryn: What is the story behind your song All Night?
Camryn: The story of All Night starts right before Covid began, i was fortunate enough to meet and build a strong relationship with a few people, who I now call and consider my best friends. We spent a lot of time together during quarantine which led to daily face time calls and sushi dates, late-night spontaneous parties, and sleepovers, taking road trips to Joshua tree and Arizona to take in all the nature, have lots of healing talks, and just getting to know one another on a deeper level with the help of tequila and other magical substances :) I wanted to write a song talking about my recent experiments with my friends. D’Moreya and I started writing this song together as soon as we heard the track and knew the exact direction to go in, which felt very fitting because I experience everything solely with him first- my first drink, my first joint, and so on was with him. That helped us piece the whole song together and create a catchy melody that I hope friend groups like mine can relate to and jam out to while going on trips of their own.
Loryn: What lesson has the music industry taught you so far?
Camryn: The music industry has taught me to simply enjoy the journey and take every moment in. Good or bad, everything is a learning lesson and apart of my growth and I truly appreciate it all because it's gotten me to the team I get to work and create with, I get to make some of the best music I’ve ever made, and I’m having so much fun cherishing every moment on this musical journey of mine. I’m always excited for where music will take me next.
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Camryn: This is so random, but also the first thing that came to mind. I can’t snap or whistle but I can make a legit owl-sounding noise with my tongue. I don’t know how common it is but, I’ve yet to meet someone else who can do it. Where are all my fellow owlers at.
