I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Olivia King to learn five random facts about herself and the story behind her song “Eileen. Check out my interview with Olivia below:
Loryn: What is the story behind your song “Eileen”?
Olivia: "Eileen" is a song I wrote with a close friend of mine, Roderick Jones. When I was sent the beat, the beat just happened to be titled "Eileen." So the inspiration really started there. As I was driving to my friend's house to write to this beat, I started playing it in my car. I thought I could make this into a really comedic song about an ex moving on to someone you thought was well...average. This song is totally not meant to be taken too seriously and is just a salty song for those salty feelings that pop up after a break-up!
Loryn: Who is a singer you'd love to collaborate with in the future?
Olivia: Lauryn Hill
Loryn: What lesson has the entertainment industry taught you?
Olivia: Do not rely on anyone.
Loryn: How has the pandemic changed you?
Olivia: I learned how to do everything relating to my music myself. During the pandemic, I didn't have contact with other people to help me create songs, so I learned how to produce beats, mix, master, shoot my own cover art and videos all myself!
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Olivia: I would have to say probably that I hated cats growing up. I have in my bio now that I am Your Friendly Singing Cat Lady so it's funny how big of a 180 I did from hating cats to now having 2 of my own and loving them!
