I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview AJ Wells to learn five random facts about himself and story behind his song Just Give Me Jesus. Check out my interview with AJ below:
Loryn: Who is a musician you'd love to work with in the future?
AJ: I would love to work with you Pharrell Williams, as a producer and artist I admire his creativity. I believe that together we would create something amazing.
Loryn: What is the story behind your song Just Give Me Jesus?
AJ: “Just Give Me Jesus”, comes from a place of being broken. I had a nervous breakdown, dropped from a label, relationship failed, and I experienced a major hurt from church all in the same season. I never felt mad at God for the experiences I had with people but I didn’t want any ties with them or the organizations they were apart of. I felt like I’d been served a pile of the worst slop in life and I began to loose hope and optimism. During this season I thought my life was over and the phrase “Just Give Me Jesus”, was two fold. If this is the end of my life, “Just Give Me Jesus”, and if my life continues on, “Just Give Me Jesus”. Everything that I’d been chasing after, working my whole life towards, and aspirations just changed and the song was birthed.
Loryn: What projects do you have in store for 2022?
AJ: The full album that has already features “KING” & “Just Give Me Jesus”, that’s available on all music outlets is entitled “God Sings”. This project is set to release in the spring of 2022.
Loryn: What lesson has the entertainment industry?
AJ: I’ve learned that being content and happy with yourself is the real goal. The music business is all about numbers, money, and who you know. Unfortunately, it’s not often your ability, skill, and talent as we’d hoped it to be. This industry will cause you to be insecure about your image, number of followers, and a host of other vain nothings. I say invest in yourself and do music or any other art/ trade that simply makes you happy. The audience, money, and opportunities will eventually come.
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
AJ: If I wasn’t a singing or doing ministry, I’d want to be a host on HGTV decorating houses. I love interior design and using my creativity to transform a space.
