I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Mauve to learn five random facts about herself and learn the story behind her song Shining Gold. Check out my interview with Mauve below:
Loryn: What is the story behind your song Shining Gold?
Mauve: I was kind of mindlessly scrolling through my phone and suddenly started to feel worse and worse about myself with all the images I was seeing. You have to be able to catch yourself falling into that trap and take a step back from comparing your life to others. Sometimes we can forget how awesome our lives are when we are constantly looking at the wonderful lives of other people. I wanted to write a song that said, enough is enough, what you have is beautiful and you are responsible for your own happiness with the confidence you find within yourself.
Loryn: How did the pandemic change you?
Mauve: Even though it’s been really strange not being able to perform any live music or to rehearse for shows with my band, I’ve been finding this as a very beneficial creation period. I have been busy working with my producers on completing new songs. I don’t allow myself to get bored because there are so many new opportunities now to move forward and grow as an artist. This can be by spending more time playing guitar, trying different vocal techniques, or forming new melodies on the piano. To keep my mental health in check I found that meditation and yoga has helped a lot.
Loryn: What lesson have you've learned from being in the music industry?
Mauve: I have learned that you need to be open to learning and expanding. There is so much to learn about promoting yourself in the music business, and strategies are constantly changing. So you have to be able to quickly adapt and keep your eyes out for what’s trending and what would work best for you.
Loryn: Who is a musician you'd love to collaborate with in the future?
Mauve: I would love to collaborate with Lizzo! She has such a bold and powerful voice, she owns any song that she sings on. Whenever I play one of her songs I feel so motivated and ready to take on the world.
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Mauve: I guess one fun fact about myself is that I have super loud sneezes! Everyone around me always jumps when I sneeze because they are so unexpected and abrupt haha. I’m sure people down the street can hear when I sneeze!
