I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Katie Power to learn five random facts about herself and the story behind her song “It’s Just Me”. Check out my interview with Katie below:
Loryn: What other projects do you have in store for 2022?
Katie: I am planning to release my first EP! I am announcing my next single very soon and I am super excited about it. These songs are pieces of my life that I am so happy to finally share.
Loryn: What is the story behind your song “It’s Just Me”?
Katie: It’s Just Me was a song I wrote after my first semester of college. I was very intimidated being in Nashville and it was my first time getting real feedback on my music. It made me feel like I had to please people or write what I thought people would like, I eventually learned that wasn’t true but this song helped me reaffirm what my values are and just who I am as a person. I also have a music video for “It’s Just Me” that should be out soon if it is not already!
Loryn: Who is a musician you'd like to work with in the future?
Katie: There are so many gifted musicians in Nashville, it would be cool to work with any of them. I think Kalie Shorr would be fun to work with because she has an attitude I love and her lyrics are always so real. In my wildest dreams, it would be someone like Taylor Swift, Josh Ramsey, or Phoebe Bridgers, they’re all musical inspirations of mine at this point.
Loryn: What lesson has the entertainment taught?
Katie: One lesson I learned is to care less. This might seem backward but it’s so easy to think you’re not good enough yet to perform or to release that song: but you are. Let yourself start getting better, you don’t want to start with your best stuff because what fun is that?? It also applies to social media, I’m trying to have more fun over there and not let numbers overtake what I do, it’s not easy.. I still care... Just hopefully a little less.
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Katie: That this is the career I’ve wanted pretty much my whole life! I started writing/singing made-up songs with my sisters and learned about how Taylor Swift was a singer who wrote her own songs. So ever since I was 9 years old this has been my dream job!
