I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Lavinia Cos to learn five random facts about herself and the story behind her latest single Cutting Ties. Check out my interview with Lavinia below:
Loryn: What other projects do you have in store for the rest of the year?
Lavinia: 2022 is going to be an exciting year for me. The release of "Cutting Ties" is just the kickoff. Following "Cutting Ties", I will release my single "Afraid Of Heights" in mid-April and possibly another single in May. I went to LA back in December, where I recorded an EP that is going to come out at the end of spring. I‘m currently working on some pretty exciting projects that I‘m going to release in the fall and winter. So you should keep an eye out for me because there’s so much more to come. This is just the beginning.
Loryn: What is the story behind your upcoming single "Cutting Ties"?
Lavinia: Well, the story behind "Cutting Ties" is a very personal one. It’s about my estranged relationship with my father. You must know, my parents got divorced when I was still very little and my relationship with my father has been very tense ever since. He started this whole war against my mother and we‘ve been through some really hard times because of his actions. Experiencing all of this from a very young age and having a father who prefers making our life miserable instead of showing interest in having a solid relationship with his kids is something that stays with you forever. I guess "Cutting Ties" is me letting go of my father and realizing that I don’t need him in order to be happy. But more than that, "Cutting Ties" is for everyone out there who has experienced the same or something similar because I want to show them that it is on you to make it better.
Loryn: Who is a musician you’d love to work with in the future?
Lavinia: Uhh, this one is a good one. I guess there are two ways to answer this question. A childhood dream of mine has always been to perform a song with Miley Cyrus. Looking back, I believe that it was her who inspired me to become an artist myself. So that’s definitely on my bucket list. But besides that, there are so many talented independent and signed artists out there that I would love to work with. I discover new artists on TikTok every single day and most of the time I`m just like “Damn, it would be so cool to collaborate with them“. So I guess if we’re going that way, I’d really love to collaborate with Camylio and ROSIE. But hey, don’t make me choose;)
Loryn: What advice do you have for other emerging artists?
Lavinia: Just like any industry, the music industry is a tough spot for newcomers. It's like this big ocean and you know that you are just one fish in-between millions of others. You will see other artists having hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok or millions of streams on Spotify and you will think that you will never make it. But that’s just not the truth. You have the same chance that everyone else has. I guess the problem is that too many talented artists quit their dream because they doubt themselves. If I can give you just one piece of advice than it will be this: If you don´t believe in your music, why should anyone else? If you doubt yourself, why should anyone else have faith in you? You will never have a bigger supporter than yourself. Not your mom, not your dad, not the uber driver jamming to your song on the radio. Do yourself a favor and kick yourself in the ass and make your dreams come true. It will be overwhelming but you can do it. I believe in you.
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Lavinia: I`m an awful dancer;) You know, music is my life and my family has been calling me a living juke box ever since I can remember. But I have absolutely no talent for dancing. So chances are low that you will ever see me doing a super big choreo on stage.
