Learn How To Be Genuine And True To Yourself with Chelsko Thompson

Updated: Dec 1, 2021

I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Chelsko Thompson to learn five random facts about herself and the story behind her song Faithful. Check out my interview with Chelsko below:

Loryn: How has the pandemic changed you?

Chelsko: The pandemic taught me to slow down, not that I’m doing that very well if we are being quite candid; even getting to this interview took me weeks. I am always taking on too much at once. These past couple of years gave me permission to slow down, focus, and work on myself. It was honestly one of the most peaceful times in my life. I got to spend time on my family, developing my craft, and quite literally nothing else, except the occasional cheese board here and there.

Loryn: What lesson has the entertainment industry taught you?

Chelsko: To be genuine, true to yourself, and kind above all else. I think we all wonder what it means to “just be yourself.” I’ll tell you how to find out: recognize who you are, how you behave, what you say and do when you are with your best friend in the whole world. That person isn’t your parents or your lover; they won’t leave you or judge you because they picked you and they love you for your flaws and all. The person that comes out when you are with them, that’s you.

Loryn: How would you describe your music in one sentence?

Chelsko: My music is the embodiment of trials that through perseverance and love lead to growth and a life of thriving rather than surviving and living God’s truth.

Loryn: What is the story behind your song Faithful?

Chelsko: I love that you ask that, in that this is my most emotional song. I was in a very abusive relationship for over a year. It ended in a restraining order, but worse than that, I lost a lot of myself during that time. Confidence that I had worked hard to build up over the years was ripped out from under me, I completely lost control. “Faithful” is a song about the battle I was in, thinking I was fighting for him when in reality I was in a fight for my life, a fight to truly find myself and be forever free from him, and everything he stood for in my life. He represented every pain and sin and negative force holding me down from living as the very best version of myself. When I finally reached up and grabbed the Lord’s hand to help me pull myself out of the dark hole that relationship was, I found myself to be stronger, and more empowered than ever before. The song is about my ex accusing me of cheating over and over as a tool to manipulate and control me, when in fact it was him that was cheating the whole time.

Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

Chelsko: People take one look at me and assume I’m some prissy, entitled, Malibu barbie who came from money. That couldn’t be further from the truth. I started out life living in Prague in a one-room apartment where my exciting toys included a wooden duck, big bird, and a Chelsea doll who’d had her lashes ripped out by my cousin, may he rest in peace. I have been through a lot, and I have learned to appreciate life when I am in want and when I have plenty. I have learned that it is better to give than to get and I have a very down to earth, magnanimous core to me that most people don’t expect prior to meeting me.
