I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Ethan Danto’ to learn five random facts about himself and what inspired him to become a musician. Check out my interview with Ethan Danto’ below:
Loryn: What lessons have you've learned from the music industry?
Ethan: I’ll often get carried away in writing and working on a record with others. One really important thing I have learned is to ‘always do splits before hits’. Filling out a simple split sheet and getting that awkward moment no one likes out of the way. Having the splits documented avoids potential confusion/ disagreement in the future. I have learned this lesson the hard way.
Loryn: What lesson did the pandemic teach you?
Ethan: Speaking of lessons, the pandemic has taught me to really appreciate my surroundings and those who I have grown close with. I have always been a family person and a nature guy, but oftentimes I'll forget to live in the moment and get carried away by the stresses of life instead of appreciating what's around me.
Loryn: Who is a musician you'd love to collaborate with?
Ethan: Hands down, I want to and will work with John Mayer. He is my musical idol and everything I write has influences from him. I even have a 15-foot long sign that says, John Mayer!! What I love about his music is everything. I'll explain… John Mayer is a masterful guitarist and has remarkable lyrics, melodies, harmony, and groove; the key elements that make up a song. His songs have strengths in each of these aspects and I aspire to create songs that are balanced in these categories.
Loryn: What inspired you to become a musician?
Ethan: When I was eight years old I had a friend who played guitar. I didn't know much about the instrument other than I thought it was super cool. He sparked my interest in guitar lessons when we had an elementary school talent show I wanted to be a part of. Around this time my other neighbour was a few houses down from my family. He heard me sing “Smoke On The Water. '' then walked me down to my house and told my parents to get me in voice lessons and if my parents didn't, he would. That day my parents recorded me singing “Never Say Never” by Justin Bieber and “Grenade” by Bruno Mars and the rest is history.
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Ethan: People would be surprised to learn that I, like many people in this world, struggle with a great amount of stress. I don't often show it in public but I do struggle with it. Life is hard. There are many things I want to do and be good at and it feels like there is very little time to do these things. Just slowing down and living in the moment like I mentioned earlier is the best thing I can do to be friendly with the stresses of life.
