I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Josh Simons about five random facts about himself, what he's learned from working with inspirational musicians. Plus learning an interesting fact about Josh Simons . Check out my interview with Will below:
Loryn: What have you learned from working with inspirational musicians?
Josh: It never fails to amaze me how every year a new wave of young artists emerge with a new sound or something different, which manages to inspire the rest of us. Art is one of those things where the younger generation learns their craft and finds inspiration from the giants but then they smash that technique with something unique to their generation or culture and create something completely fresh from that blend. It comes full circle - and it’s a beautiful thing.
Loryn: What have you learned about yourself during the pandemic?
Josh: I’ve observed how irritable I can get when things start to pile up. But I think that’s more to do with being cooped up in the same four walls, 7 days a week! It’s actually forced me to get out of the house and walk a lot - I’m doing about 3.5 miles a day - which has helped me lose weight. So it hasn’t all been for nothing!
Loryn: What are your predictions for virtual concerts?
Josh: I’ve been playing with VR technology and live shows since 2016 and things have come a long way - there’s still a little ways to go before it becomes repeatable en masse… It needs to become cheaper to produce for any artist, and the barriers to entry for a global audience are still a little high - but by and large I think it’s incredibly exciting and a potentially very intimate way for artists to connect with their fans.
Loryn: If you could change anything in the world, what would it be?
Josh: Fixing class inequality. And I’d start by offering free education to anyone who sought it.
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Josh: When I’m not knee-deep in Vampr work or catching up on music news, I’m actually a big politics nerd who spends a couple hours most evenings reading articles across the political spectrum until I fall asleep.
