I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Erica Rankin about five random facts about herself, what are her plans for BroDough within the next year. Plus learning an interesting fact about Erica Rankin. Check out my interview with Erica below:
Loryn: What motivates you to continue being an entrepreneur?
Erica: I'm still fairly new to the entrepreneurial game, but I have never felt so fulfilled and excited about anything before. Although cookie dough may not seem like a big deal to many, what I have created makes a lot of people happy. It's something that individuals can enjoy without sacrificing their health/fitness goals. Bringing people value, gets me out of bed in the morning. Also, the folks in my network who are also entrepreneurs continue to inspire me, the community is like no other. I don't think, actually I know, that I won't be going back to the 9-5 life.
Loryn: What have you've learned about yourself during this pandemic?
Erica: This pandemic has taught me many things about myself. I launched Bro Dough a few months before it all started, and I think it has prepared me to take on just about anything. I had to pivot and really push online sales, as many stores were closed and didn't want to take on new products. The pandemic also brought me closer to many people, and I have had the pleasure of connecting with other entrepreneurs all over the world just through Linkedin/Zoom. Overall, I learned that we can't control the things that happen to us, but we can control how we react.
Loryn: What's the goal you hope to accomplish with Bro Dough within the next year?
Erica: We are slowly scaling the company, and focusing on distribution across Canada first. I can't wait to see the product in grocery stores across the country, it's been a vision of mine for the past year. I understand a lot of people would like to see this product in the states soon, but we need to walk before we run. Slow and steady.
Loryn: What's a personal goal you hope to achieve this year?
Erica: A goal I have for myself is to become more strict with boundaries between work/personal life. Being an entrepreneur can be extremely challenging, as we are working almost all hours. I think finding a healthy balance is so important to prevent burn out. We need to take care of ourselves, and we can't pour from an empty cup.
Loryn: What's something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Erica: One thing that people don't know about me, is that I grew up with miniature horses (yes, a tiny horse!), I got my first horse when I was 10, owned her for 12 years, and at one point I had 6 miniature horses. They kept me out of trouble growing up, and it's something I hope to get back into down the road.
