I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Melanie Meriney to learn five random facts about herself and what inspired her to become a singer. Check out my interview with Melanie below:
Loryn: What inspired you to become a singer?
Melaine: Growing up, my mom always listened to country radio around the house, and my dad was big into the 70s and 80s rock bands. When I was in third grade, they let me third wheel with them to a Shania Twain concert, and I thought she had the coolest job in the world- I had my mom sign me up for voice lessons and haven't looked back.
Loryn: What lesson did the pandemic teach you?
Melaine: While it's had such a big negative impact on the music business, I do think in some ways it was a blessing in disguise as it allowed me to realign priorities, focus on time in the studio, and really be purposeful about my plans moving forward. In this industry, we are always trying to keep up with our peers, and the pandemic allowed us to breathe a little bit and ultimately have a much more productive 2021.
Loryn: Who is a singer you'd love to collaborate with you?
Melaine: Shania Twain, obviously, would be a dream as she is my primary inspiration. But I'm in love with Brett Eldredge's voice, so I would love to do a duo with him sometime!
Loryn: What is something you miss about live music?
Melaine: The people! Country music, especially, is a community. Concerts are all about that community vibe, and I love sharing songs that resonate with people. It's easy to look at how many listens you have on Spotify, but nothing can replace seeing the reactions in the crowd!
Loryn: What's something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Melaine: I played AAA travel ice hockey growing up! I think I carried that competitiveness and drive with me into my music career.
