I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Sterling Banks about five random facts about herself, what is the challenging thing about creating music. Plus learning an interesting fact about Sterling Banks. Check out my interview with Sterling below:
Loryn: What is the challenging thing about creating music?
Sterling: The most challenging thing about writing music is trying to write when you’re not in a creative space. Creatives go in and out of creative spurts but we always want to be in that moment of pure creation. It’s not something you can force or create, so it’s hard when you move into a non-creative space.
Loryn: Who is a musical artist you'd like to work with?
Sterling: I would love to work with Doha Cat! I feel like our sounds and styles would really compliment each other and we could come up with some really dope music together!

Loryn: What have you've learned about yourself during the global pandemic?
Sterling: The pandemic is really what sparked my music career. I’ve built a multimedia production company, and when Covid hit I had to get creative and find a way to redesign how my company would fit into the new norm. I started experimenting with the idea of marketing artists, using myself as the guinea pig. If I could build my music brand, I could build others, right? What I didn’t know was how in love I would fall with being an artist. The deeper I got in, the more I released I wanted to pursue this life!
Loryn: How do you generate new music ideas?
Sterling: My music is written based on my life experiences. I write about what’s going on in my life. Music is how I speak my truth and process my emotions. I will say- I have Taylor Swifted a few exes, so you probably don’t want to break my heart!
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Sterling: A surprising fact about me is that although I’m based in the HipHop lane, I listen to all genres of music. Country, rock, death metal, indie acoustic, classical and orchestral! Music, to me, is the universal language. It’s about moving the listener, regardless of your genre.
