Learn About Laveena Fell Into Software and More

I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Laveena Ramchandani about five random facts about herself, what inspired her to have a career in software . Plus what advice would she give her younger self. Check out my interview with Laveena Ramchandani below:

Loryn: What inspired you to have a career in software?

Laveena: Week 1 of my first ever lectures at university I heard the words Java, SQL, Object orientated programming, testing, state diagrams. I was clueless and had no prior experience. Looking back at those university days and the panic I had, today I can say it was a great decision I took to land all the way from Spain into a Computer Science degree in the UK, which successively has opened so many doors for me. Technology is an ever-evolving world and a career in the Tech world is both challenging and motivating, that is what keeps me going. I feel so grateful of the job I have right now and all the skill set and knowledge I’ve acquired over the last 7 years in the IT industry not just for my role but also getting to know individuals and learning unique things from them and sharing my own skills too. A career in software is an ever-evolving area and you get to learn a lot as the field is so broad and encompasses a variety of roles related to both computer applications and systems. I have been working in Tech for over 7 years now. I work in testing and quality assurance, a good mix of technical and business awareness role. I have learnt a lot through my career and look forward to gaining more knowledge and at the same time inspire more testers around the world.

Loryn: What's a lesson you've learned from doing data science models?

Laveena: I have learnt that not many testers are directly involved with data scientists! This is such a great area to learn from. I know its full of algorithms, but the work these algorithms do is just amazing and fascinating. Trying to test this is just a great opportunity. The lessons I have learnt are that you need to be able to understand the results the model provides and gain enough confidence before this could be used by the clients. I have also learnt that having little to some background knowledge of what data science entails is useful.

Loryn: What do you consider has your biggest accomplishment?

Laveena: I have quite a few accomplishments, Most notably:

· The opportunities of being an international speaker

· Blogging and collaborating with professionals

· Being part of a big 4 firm

· Helping raise awareness about testing

· Constantly learning from professionals

Loryn: What advice would you give your younger self?

Laveena: I would say to keep learning! Also, use platforms to spread your skills and inspire everyone around the world, someone out there may be just looking for the guidance/suggestions you may have.

Loryn: What's something not many people know about you?

Laveena: Something not many people know about me is that I fell into software testing. It was a good fall I would say! I joined a graduate scheme where I had hoped to learn the different areas of software engineering, but when I joined that firm, the graduate scheme did not go ahead. It was a little uneasy and nerve wracking not knowing what’s next. But I was promptly assigned with a very big client at that time and I started my testing journey. I feel testing and quality assurance are a good mix of technical and business acumen and definitely provides good value to a team and product.
