Loryn: What lesson has the entertainment industry taught you?
Deven: The entertainment industry has taught me about the business and to separate business from pleasure because it’s called show business and not show friendship. It has also taught me not to take anyone’s word for anything but to make sure things are on paper. Make sure your paperwork is done correctly.
Loryn: What is the story behind your single “I Got California Love”?
Deven: I grew up in Cali my influences growing up were E-40, Dj Quik Ice Cube 2pac Suga Free Tha Dogg Pound so on and so on this song is basically a tribute to my people in Cali that paved the way for newcomers like myself.
Loryn: What inspired you to create the Black Film Festival, Los Angeles?
Deven: Because the black community was in need of a film festival that catered to our wants and needs in the movie industry.
Loryn: How has the pandemic changed you?
Deven: It actually has changed me for the better it forced me to level up by getting my llc and doing things by the book it has also made me prepare for rainy days and prepare for the what if’s .
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Deven: Most people don’t know that I come from a large family and that I’m the 10th of 14 kids and That I started playing the drums at age 9 . Also a lot of people don’t know that I’ma R&B singer check out my Spotify link The New King of R&B.
